Hurricane Harvey Relief

As Southeast Texas recovers from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, we're partnering with the Nashville Baptist Association and Tennessee Baptist Convention's Disaster Relief to help. We will send a team to Texas in the coming weeks with a shower and laundry trailer that we will operate. With this trailer, we can partner with churches and other facilities in Texas that have space to house volunteers but don't have the proper shower facilities for those staying there.

If you're interested in going with us to Texas, you'll need to take two training sessions this week:

Introduction to Disaster Relief — Tuesday, September 5, 5:30–8:00 PM, First Baptist Church, Greenbrier, TN (in the fellowship hall)

Shower/Laundry Training — Wednesday, September 6; 6:00–8:00 PM, First Baptist Church, Hendersonville, TN (Weekley building, room 106)

In order to be fully credentialed for our trip, you will need to take both courses. Please pre-register for both classes to help TBC Disaster Relief have enough classroom materials and meals for those attending. To pre-register for Introduction to Disaster Relief, email or call (615) 384-8197. To pre-register for the Shower/Laundry training, please email Bill or Anita Jacobs at Also download and fill out all applicable registration forms on the Tennessee Baptist Disaster Relief website. The credentialing fee is $36. The church will cover this cost, but you may need to pay on Tuesday. If so, the church will reimburse you.

If you have had Introduction to Disaster Relief and/or any specialized classes and your class certification has expired or will expire this year, please take the opportunity to get re-certified. If you take Introduction to Disaster Relief, you need to rectify every 3 years, regardless of activation. To take the recertification class, you must be an existing volunteer.

If you'd like to contribute financially to our team traveling to Texas or donate to relief efforts, Sunset Hills is accepting gifts for hurricane relief. For more information on our relief efforts, email Pastor Steve Durham.
